Notion Shortcuts

David

April 23, 2024

Keyboard shortcuts are primarily used for time-saving purposes. Notion is fundamentally built on efficiency, so it's no surprise that you can use keyboard combinations to boost your productivity within this app. But what are these shortcuts?

In this post, I will introduce the most important keyboard shortcuts and how knowing them contributes to your user experience in Notion. Let's dive in.👇🏼

Navigation

Navigation shortcuts will help you with movement within Notion. Here are some of the key commands:

  • CMD/CTRL + 1/2/3/4: Switch between pages, databases, calendars, and galleries.
  • CMD/CTRL + K: Search within any page or database.
  • CMD/CTRL + T: Create a new page or database.
  • CMD/CTRL + SHIFT + D: Duplicate the current page.

Data Capture and Editing

Editing shortcuts expedite the process of capturing content and formatting it. Here are some useful combinations:

  • CMD/CTRL + B/I/U: Make selected text bold, italicized, or underlined.
  • CMD/CTRL + SHIFT + C: Copy formatting of selected text.
  • CMD/CTRL + SHIFT + V: Paste text with formatting.
  • CMD/CTRL + SHIFT + K: Create a new link.

Database Operations

If you primarily work with databases to organize your notes, the following Notion commands are for you:

  • CMD/CTRL + J: Toggle page content on/off.
  • CMD/CTRL + SHIFT + L: Toggle list view on/off.
  • CMD/CTRL + SHIFT + P: Toggle gallery view on/off.
  • CMD/CTRL + SHIFT + T: Sort the database by date.

In Summary

By using the keyboard shortcuts listed above, you can take notes more quickly in your daily routine. I know it may feel unusual at first to navigate without a mouse or touchpad, but once you get used to it, you won't be able to go back. 😜

Give it a try and experience the productivity side of Notion.
